Raneem, 14, is an internally displaced refugee in Syria who moved to five locations before finally settling in Azaz. The war led to the death of her father and made her mother ill. She lost her self-confidence and hopes for completing school due to challenging circumstances. When she first joined Project Soar’s Girls’ Empowerment Program, she was quiet and isolated herself. After pairing with a friend she knew from her previous school, she began to interact with others. She became involved in workshops, actively pitched her ideas, and was very persuasive in debate sessions. “My life has transformed since the beginning of the workshops until now,” she said. “From ‘Tell me, Raneem, please, let me hear your voice,’ to ‘Please, Raneem, stop talking and focus with me a little bit.'”
