Warmth That Changes Lives: Nisar’s Story

Ten-year-old Nisar Ahmad knows what bitter cold feels like. After his family fled conflict in Helmand Province, their first winter in Kabul’s Qambar IDP camp meant sharing a single blanket with his father in their makeshift shelter.

“I used to share one blanket with my father,” Nisar told us. “It was very cold.”

This winter, everything changed. Through our winterization program, Nisar’s family received specially manufactured sleeping bags designed for Afghanistan’s harsh climate.

The impact was immediate: “We finally felt warm this winter,” says Nisar’s father, Ghafar. “I felt comfort seeing my children sleeping inside those bags.”

With basic needs met, the future brightens. Instead of collecting firewood to survive, Nisar can now fulfill his dream: “I wanted to go to school, like the other children. This year, my father promised me I can go.”
