GROWING HOPE: Six-year-old Ruaa Finds Joy in Our Community Garden
Spring has arrived at Sama Community Center in Malakasa, and with it, new life is taking root! For Ruaa, a six-year-old Syrian girl who has called the Malakasa refugee camp home for the past six months, our new vegetable garden has become a daily source of excitement and purpose.
Every day, Ruaa arrives with her mother and sister, eager to check on the seedlings she’s helped plant. Her face lights up with pure delight when she discovers new growth, her hands happily covered in soil as she tends to her plants with remarkable care and attention. For children who have experienced displacement, the simple act of nurturing plants provides both therapeutic benefits and a sense of stability.
Our spacious grounds have transformed into an outdoor classroom where children learn responsibility, patience, and the joy of shared accomplishment. As we watch both plants and children blossom in this space, we’re reminded of our mission to cultivate not just gardens, but hope, community, and belonging.
