Before Aug 2021, Afghan women lived freely – going to markets, hospitals and schools. Education and careers were open to them. But when the Taliban took over, everything changed. Women were pushed back into their homes, their public presence fading rapidly. Though some navigated limited areas, their freedom was severely curtailed. Education and work became distant dreams.

Amidst this darkness, Blossom Hill Fellow Sultana Amani’s SAFE Project offers hope. Afghan women make reusable #BlossomPads for girls/young women, providing sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions. When we invest in such programs, we are championing more than just women’s health. We are empowering them to earn incomes and support families despite restrictions.
