BH Fellow Fereshteh Ganjavi hosted the Refugee’s First Thanksgiving Dinner yesterday at the Southern Connecticut State University bringing to a close the university’s month-long events around social justice. Over 100 people including refugee families and their children, largely from Afghanistan, as well as university students, faculty and health professionals attended the dinner. While numerous games and activities entertained the children, participants had the opportunity to engage with each other and share their experiences as refugees settling in a new country. The dinner was catered by Sanctuary Kitchen, staffed with refugee and immigrant chefs, who lent some Afghan flavors to the traditional Thanksgiving meal.
