Blossom Hill Fellow George Batah, who runs Syrian Youth Empowerment (SYE) has been proud to see the tremendous success of high school Syrian students who participated in his college preparation program. SYE students have gained admissions to top universities such as Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The excitement from these admissions, though, has far too often been dampened when the Syrian students do not receive waivers from the travel ban, which keeps them from matriculating into their universities of choice. However, through partnerships with organizations such as the International Refugee Assistance Program (IRAP), and university presidents, multiple SYE students have successfully received their waivers, allowing them to begin universities in the United States in the next few weeks. George spent countless hours working to get students the documentation they need to travel to the United States and is thrilled that this hard work has led to success, and to bright futures for the students. #BHTurns10
